For some reason, I need the fiber to keep everything stable. I got through 3 days of Joe's reboot before I broke out in a huge rash and my mouth was full of bacteria and not the "die off" variety. The juices were also hard to drink because of their sweetness and they made my teeth hurt.

101 Juice Recipes

I think you can get better results from a short water fast followed by green smoothies which use the whole fruit and vegetable and maybe just juicing starchy components like carrots, beets, sweet potato and parsnip every once in a while. I feel like Joe sold out a little in that he made his juices so appealing that they are easy to drink for any one that is used to already eating a lot of sugar.

You may lose weight but you will also develop other health issues from excessive sugar. View 2 comments. Mar 02, Doug rated it really liked it. I finished reading this awhile ago, but didn't do a review at the time, because I wanted to actually TRY the diet before I did so. I have now gone 5 days of a planned 7 - 10 days on it I have lost 7.

The first two days were a bit rough headaches, sluggish but after that, it is really quite easy to follow. I also used HPP bottled juice which he specified was fine - I used Suja, which is inexpensive at Costco and tastes OK , since I didn't want to juice all the time - but added some chopped up fresh veggies and fruits for a bit of fiber.

I also as he again said was OK added some protein powder every now and then, so as not to have any muscle atrophy. The main thing I liked is that, as you can see, results were rapid I entreat anyone with long time weight issues I have yo-yo-ed all my life to give it a try Mar 12, Jay Fox rated it it was amazing Shelves: So at 42 almost 43 I feel like I'm falling apart, the wheels are coming off my wagon.

We did a modified reboot and I lost several pounds and was feeling great. As time went on I fell back into old habits and back where I began. This time is going to be different! Joe's book offers great wisdom and several plans laid out step by step for rebooting.

There's a lot to like about this book. First of all, the author - he's enthusiastic, knowledgeable about his subject, encouraging and very positive. He's been there, been overweight and found a solution both to losing weight and encouraging good health through juicing and eating fresh fruit and vegetables.

I have been juicing on and off for about 15 years so understand and appreciate the health benefits. And, as a longstanding vegetarian for more than half my life now I like his approach to hea There's a lot to like about this book.

And, as a longstanding vegetarian for more than half my life now I like his approach to healthy eating. However, the reason why I have only given the book 3 stars is because, having read it, I'm not entirely convinced that this is the right approach to losing weight.

It clearly worked for Joe Cross and it will work for many others, but I don't wholly agree with the consumption of juices purely to lose weight. My approach has always been to include juices in a daily diet for long term health, complementary to eating a sensible healthy diet. It seems a bit too quick fix to me and is not sustainable for any lengthy period.

As he says in the book, he did a 60 day "Reboot" which he doesn't recommend for anyone without medical advice. By all means include lots of the advice in this book, which is nutritional, but I am wary of juice-only diets which I think have the potential to cause digestive discomfort, and can be severely lacking in fibre.

However, I have taken some very useful hints and tips from the book and some great new ideas for juices and other recipes, which is now joining my collection of healthy eating and cookery books. Most reviews I read seemed to suggest it was well, that's how I understood them. It is not, however. This book is basically a recipe book. And as far as recipe books go, this is a nice one to have. It's well organized and the juices are relatively simple to make.

The book suggests a number of plans to get you started 5 day reboot, 10 day reboot, etc , and all ingredients are listed so it's 3. The book suggests a number of plans to get you started 5 day reboot, 10 day reboot, etc , and all ingredients are listed so it's easy to know how much and what to buy. Is this book for everyone? In my opinion: The ingredients for a 5 day reboot would blow my food budget for an entire month But I will try and put the book to good use by incorporating a juice into my diet as often as I can.

That can't be bad either. Feb 19, Dan rated it it was amazing Shelves: I liked the film and this book enough to want to buy a juicer and give this a shot. I don't know exactly what type of juicing program I'm going to try yet, but this seems like such a simple way to add more fruits and veggies to my diet which can only be a good thing. I really like Joe's approach in the book. It gives you plenty of options to try this in a way that you can be successful with the ultimate goal of permanently changing the way to think about and use food.

It contains a lot of juice recipes I'm excited to try and gives instructions on how to prepare just about every fruit and vegetable for juicing. This will be a great resource. Excellent book for anyone wanting a healthier life!!!

The Reboot with Joe Juice Diet: Lose Weight, Get Healthy and Feel Amazing by Joe Cross

I loved this book! Joe Cross helps us to understand what a reboot is, the benefits, and shares many success stories. Best of all, he tackles the obstacles that one may experience on a reboot, so we can plan accordingly and avoid them. This is a guide for anyone looking for a healthy way to eat as opposed to a "diet".

Juice On friends!!! Dec 31, Wayne Boos rated it it was amazing. This book changed my life. Jun 20, Don Gillette rated it really liked it. Kind of repetitive and contradictory in places, but I tried it for 30 days and lost 42 pounds in preparation for a total hip replacement and I have to admit, I never felt better in my life. As soon as I recuperate and am able to have high Vitamin K foods again, I'm going to do another 30 days and perhaps extend it to I honestly do not know why this works better than just eating fruits and vegetables, but I would guess it's because by juicing, you're able to get the nutrition of many more frui Kind of repetitive and contradictory in places, but I tried it for 30 days and lost 42 pounds in preparation for a total hip replacement and I have to admit, I never felt better in my life.

I honestly do not know why this works better than just eating fruits and vegetables, but I would guess it's because by juicing, you're able to get the nutrition of many more fruits and vegetables into your system at once.

There's no way I would ever eat what I managed to juice in a day. And there's no way I would ever eat kale, either. I was juicing a bunch of kale every week and it'd take me a year to eat a bunch of kale Jul 05, JoAnn rated it it was amazing. So I decided to read one of his books. Enjoyed reading the book. This juicing plan is easy enough to follow for those wanting to lose a few pounds or or more - It has helped a lot of people lose weight and and keep it off!

For some, get their body back to a health state and feel amazing! The success stories are very motivating for the ones that really need the willpower to stick with this plan. May 15, Timothy Wood rated it it was amazing. Love it! Solid foundation for general information and incorporation of juicing into the diet. I've not read any other juicing books, although I plan to. But this one is sufficient to get me to start and experiment at least.

I feel that the value of this book is in the holistic approach it takes. That is, whether you want to just add some juice to your diet or go all the way and do a fast, you have a solid reference.

Just finished Joes book and it makes the Reboot process so easy to understand and follow. It explained all the details of how to prepare for, plan, set up, execute, and follow through with healthier nutrition through juicing.

Lots of great resources sited. Definitely will keep as a reference in my collection and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to reboot their health. Great juicing resource I got a juicer for Christmas, but wasn't sure where to start. I've watched Joe's documentaries so I decided to read his book as well.

It is a great guide on how to prepare different fruits and veggies as well as recipients and guides for different length reboots. I feel much more comfortable using my juicer after reading this book. May 31, Melody rated it liked it. After watching Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead shortly after the documentary made its way to Netflix, I was hit with a reality check and have been following Joe Cross ever since. Finally though, I was able to sit down and read his books, leading into reading his latest book, Juice It to Lose It.

In The Reboot With Joe, readers get a breakdown of what it means to really prepare and plan for a reboot, the importance of community and support during the reboot, and the significance that confidence in yourself can have in motivating you to keep going. An affirmation of sorts. Throughout the book, Joe talks about incorporating more healthy foods while reducing your junk foods as you transition into a healthier lifestyle. Key word: Going cold turkey is not recommended. For me, I slowly eliminated the bad and was not shy at all about packing on the good and that worked for me.

Making a transition to healthy eating can literally reverse the progress of chronic diseases, can prevent heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and strokes; and can dramatically extend lifespan and healthy life expectancy. A few months of counting. This recipe book is great! I am actually doing the Reboot right now and this book has great recipes. Today is my 13 day and I feel great.

May 12, Claire rated it it was amazing Shelves: The Reboot with Joe Juice Diet brings us his story of overcoming obesity, poor health, and bad habits and presents success stories from others whose lives he has touched. Cross- Review: Cross--who lost a hundred pounds and discontinued all his medications by following his own plan--walks the reader through his life before juicing, candidly sharing his self-defeating attitude toward food and fitness.

The Reboot with Joe Juice Diet Cookbook, the sequel to The Reboot with Joe Juice Diet, provides readers with more plant-powered recipes that they can use with the Reboot Juice Diet plans or any time for a healthy meal along with juicing and cooking information and inspiration.

This cookbook is one of the most comprehensive of its kind that I've come across. The sheer attention to detail is superb - alongside each recipe for a juice, smoothie, salad, soup or cooked meal is the nutritional breakdown and a list of medical conditions that may be helped. There are instructions on how to make a juice, including specific guidance on how to juice just about every fruit and vegetable known to man.

The juices are colour-coded, making it effortless to substitute one for the other, and there is even a list of suggestions on how to use pulp!

I've been juicing for years and still managed to pick up quite a lot of information. The photos of the juices and meals are clear, giving a comprehensible idea of how the finished recipe should look; judging by my efforts, the photos are pretty true to life. At the back of the book there are some great resources to point you in the right direction post-Reboot.

There is even some information for your doctor, together with a link to a downloadable PDF which can be printed out, should you want to give your doctor a hard copy. I think this is a really good idea, and something I've not seen in any other similar book and I've seen quite a lot!

There is also some medical information, and a background on Joe Cross too. The resources section is a nice touch and rounds off this cookbook very nicely. I think this would be an ideal book for those looking to get into juicing, whether to lose weight or improve their health, or both.

It contains just about everything you need, from straightforward instructions on how to make a juice, to medical information, and everything in between. The recipes are yummy too! Sep 26, Chrissy rated it liked it Shelves: But after watching and rewatching this outstanding documentary, I decided to give it all a shot. I bought a juicer, stocked up on product, and waited for magic to happen.

What I learned is that juicers are a pain to clean -- and the price of enough produce to produce a single glass of juice is WAY more than I expected. But I do still hope, from time to time, that I'll take inspiration a step further and do some serious juicing. Until then, I suppose I'll just read about it.

Early on, the author advises readers that this Juice Diet Cookbook is intended to be a supplement to his earlier boot that lays out the general Reboot Juice Diet. And I honestly haven't yet read the original book, so I'm not sure how well I can judge this cookbook on its own. I do, however, think that the documentary gives at least enough back story to make the recipes in this book feel relevant and interesting.

Cross gives a decent introduction to juicing in this book, even going into detail about how to select, clean, store, and juice different produces, focusing on what fruits and veggies can provide which useful benefits, as well as which juices are best suited for a variety of different health conditions. There are more than enough juice combinations in this cookbook, although I've always approached juicing as random trial and error process with lots of taste testing along the way.

Just be aware that most of these juicers will require a fairly pricey juicer. From my experience, the cheap ones just don't do the trick unfortunately. I do, however, plan on purchasing my own physical copy, in hopes that I'll dust off my juicer and get some nutrients flowing through my veins!

May 31, Melody rated it liked it. Next are salads, then soups, sides, and finally, main dishes. This was good, I just need to leave this particular recipe in the fridge longer to make it more cold. I love really cold drinks so while this was fine, I know that it could have been even more refreshing with a bit more chill to it.

Yes, I would. May 29, Lara rated it really liked it Shelves: This book is for those who have tried juicing and are looking for more ideas. Lose Weight, Get Healthy and Feel Amazing , this book is really just about adding fruits and vegetables to your diet.

The reasons to juice are not given much space here, as it's assumed that you already know that. However, there is a lot of information on preparing different types of fruits and vegetables for juicing, as well as for other types of preparations. The recipe This book is for those who have tried juicing and are looking for more ideas. The recipes address seasonality as well as benefits, such as after a workout or weight loss.

There are also recipes for flavoring coconut water, which is recommended as a means to hydrate between juices during a juice fast. There are also a lot of recipes for salads, vegetarian meals, and even snacks and treats. These last are sweetened naturally with dates, figs, and other dried fruits. I made two recipes from this book, a juice and a flavored coconut water. The juice was Call for Fall apple, strawberries, lettuce, and lemon and was delicious. My husband really liked it too.

The flavored coconut water was Strawberry on the Vine Coconut Water and it was really tasty. You could still taste the coconut, but also the strawberries. It has spinach in it, and you could only tell because of the color. My mother and I drank that one right up.

Overall, if you're wanting to expand your juicing repertoire and are looking for more transition recipes before and after a juice fast , then this book probably has a lot of good ideas for you. It even has recipes for what to do with the pulp left over from juicing so it doesn't go to waste. I received a copy for review through NetGalley. Aug 25, Beyond the Pages rated it it was amazing Shelves: I thoroughly enjoyed this supplemental book.

I found it to be informative, helpful, and very detailed. And even better, there are only a few left, which means they are selling fast.
