For some reason, I need the fiber to keep everything stable. I got through 3 days of Joe's reboot before I broke out in a huge rash and my mouth was full of bacteria and not the "die off" variety. The juices were also hard to drink because of their sweetness and they made my teeth hurt.

I think you can get better results from a short water fast followed by green smoothies which use the whole fruit and vegetable and maybe just juicing starchy components like carrots, beets, sweet potato and parsnip every once in a while. I feel like Joe sold out a little in that he made his juices so appealing that they are easy to drink for any one that is used to already eating a lot of sugar.

The first two days were a bit rough headaches, sluggish but after that, it is really quite easy to follow. I also used HPP bottled juice which he specified was fine - I used Suja, which is inexpensive at Costco and tastes OK , since I didn't want to juice all the time - but added some chopped up fresh veggies and fruits for a bit of fiber.
I also as he again said was OK added some protein powder every now and then, so as not to have any muscle atrophy. There's a lot to like about this book. First of all, the author - he's enthusiastic, knowledgeable about his subject, encouraging and very positive. He's been there, been overweight and found a solution both to losing weight and encouraging good health through juicing and eating fresh fruit and vegetables.

And, as a longstanding vegetarian for more than half my life now I like his approach to healthy eating. However, the reason why I have only given the book 3 stars is because, having read it, I'm not entirely convinced that this is the right approach to losing weight.
It clearly worked for Joe Cross and it will work for many others, but I don't wholly agree with the consumption of juices purely to lose weight. My approach has always been to include juices in a daily diet for long term health, complementary to eating a sensible healthy diet. It seems a bit too quick fix to me and is not sustainable for any lengthy period.
As he says in the book, he did a 60 day "Reboot" which he doesn't recommend for anyone without medical advice. By all means include lots of the advice in this book, which is nutritional, but I am wary of juice-only diets which I think have the potential to cause digestive discomfort, and can be severely lacking in fibre.
However, I have taken some very useful hints and tips from the book and some great new ideas for juices and other recipes, which is now joining my collection of healthy eating and cookery books. Most reviews I read seemed to suggest it was well, that's how I understood them. It is not, however. This book is basically a recipe book. And as far as recipe books go, this is a nice one to have. It's well organized and the juices are relatively simple to make.

In my opinion: The ingredients for a 5 day reboot would blow my food budget for an entire month But I will try and put the book to good use by incorporating a juice into my diet as often as I can.

I don't know exactly what type of juicing program I'm going to try yet, but this seems like such a simple way to add more fruits and veggies to my diet which can only be a good thing. I really like Joe's approach in the book. It gives you plenty of options to try this in a way that you can be successful with the ultimate goal of permanently changing the way to think about and use food.
It contains a lot of juice recipes I'm excited to try and gives instructions on how to prepare just about every fruit and vegetable for juicing. This will be a great resource. Excellent book for anyone wanting a healthier life!!!

I loved this book! Joe Cross helps us to understand what a reboot is, the benefits, and shares many success stories. Best of all, he tackles the obstacles that one may experience on a reboot, so we can plan accordingly and avoid them. This is a guide for anyone looking for a healthy way to eat as opposed to a "diet".

Just finished Joes book and it makes the Reboot process so easy to understand and follow. It explained all the details of how to prepare for, plan, set up, execute, and follow through with healthier nutrition through juicing.
Lots of great resources sited. Definitely will keep as a reference in my collection and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to reboot their health. This cookbook is one of the most comprehensive of its kind that I've come across. The sheer attention to detail is superb - alongside each recipe for a juice, smoothie, salad, soup or cooked meal is the nutritional breakdown and a list of medical conditions that may be helped. There are instructions on how to make a juice, including specific guidance on how to juice just about every fruit and vegetable known to man.
The juices are colour-coded, making it effortless to substitute one for the other, and there is even a list of suggestions on how to use pulp!
I've been juicing for years and still managed to pick up quite a lot of information. The photos of the juices and meals are clear, giving a comprehensible idea of how the finished recipe should look; judging by my efforts, the photos are pretty true to life. At the back of the book there are some great resources to point you in the right direction post-Reboot.
There is even some information for your doctor, together with a link to a downloadable PDF which can be printed out, should you want to give your doctor a hard copy. I think this is a really good idea, and something I've not seen in any other similar book and I've seen quite a lot!
There is also some medical information, and a background on Joe Cross too. The resources section is a nice touch and rounds off this cookbook very nicely. I think this would be an ideal book for those looking to get into juicing, whether to lose weight or improve their health, or both.

I bought a juicer, stocked up on product, and waited for magic to happen.
What I learned is that juicers are a pain to clean -- and the price of enough produce to produce a single glass of juice is WAY more than I expected. But I do still hope, from time to time, that I'll take inspiration a step further and do some serious juicing. Until then, I suppose I'll just read about it.
Early on, the author advises readers that this Juice Diet Cookbook is intended to be a supplement to his earlier boot that lays out the general Reboot Juice Diet. And I honestly haven't yet read the original book, so I'm not sure how well I can judge this cookbook on its own. I do, however, think that the documentary gives at least enough back story to make the recipes in this book feel relevant and interesting.
Cross gives a decent introduction to juicing in this book, even going into detail about how to select, clean, store, and juice different produces, focusing on what fruits and veggies can provide which useful benefits, as well as which juices are best suited for a variety of different health conditions. There are more than enough juice combinations in this cookbook, although I've always approached juicing as random trial and error process with lots of taste testing along the way.
Just be aware that most of these juicers will require a fairly pricey juicer. From my experience, the cheap ones just don't do the trick unfortunately. I do, however, plan on purchasing my own physical copy, in hopes that I'll dust off my juicer and get some nutrients flowing through my veins!

However, there is a lot of information on preparing different types of fruits and vegetables for juicing, as well as for other types of preparations. The recipe This book is for those who have tried juicing and are looking for more ideas. The recipes address seasonality as well as benefits, such as after a workout or weight loss.
There are also recipes for flavoring coconut water, which is recommended as a means to hydrate between juices during a juice fast. There are also a lot of recipes for salads, vegetarian meals, and even snacks and treats. These last are sweetened naturally with dates, figs, and other dried fruits. I made two recipes from this book, a juice and a flavored coconut water. The juice was Call for Fall apple, strawberries, lettuce, and lemon and was delicious. My husband really liked it too.
The flavored coconut water was Strawberry on the Vine Coconut Water and it was really tasty. You could still taste the coconut, but also the strawberries. It has spinach in it, and you could only tell because of the color. My mother and I drank that one right up.
Overall, if you're wanting to expand your juicing repertoire and are looking for more transition recipes before and after a juice fast , then this book probably has a lot of good ideas for you.
