Whiskey Words & a Shovel III

I also respect the fact that he shines a light on strong women, and the depth of admiration he has for his female partners. It's very rewarding to read about these women who are celebrated, women who have strong spines, thick skin and the gentlest of hearts amidst everything that tears them down. Sin's writing is quite simple which makes it easy I've been a huge fan of R.

Sin's writing is quite simple which makes it easy to read his poems and understand them. This gives a very aesthetic feel to each of his pieces. He describes the scars of old love and the ache we develop for the people who don't care for us.

He talks about finding the strength to pick up our shattered hearts and learning to be our own person. These poems have such a raw intensity that strikes a familiar chord within readers.

It is heartbreaking and honest and so so truthful. His poems have made me stop and think and feel deeply. In addition I find the cover of this book absolutely appealing.

I feel like it represents every burden this book carries. I look forward to his next work and if anyone's contemplating giving this a read, I definitely recommend you to. I received a copy via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Apr 26, StephanieNicole rated it liked it Shelves: I even went back and read a few random poems from II loved them then read more poems from III didn't love them.

Many of the poems are written from a second person perspective, meaning the narrator is speaking directly to you the reader, which I normally strongly dislike, and I disliked here. However, Volume II was also 2. However, Volume II was also done like this, and I thought it was fine. This review is not very coherent, but it's all I've got for now. I recommend reading II then trying this one out only if you are up for more. But, as a female, I don't need some man to build me up or validate me, so this male voice makes me uncomfortable.

I would rather learn about this man's experiences - instead of feeling like I'm being talked down to. Jan 16, Andreas Aristodemou rated it it was amazing.

The simplicity and the emotion put in this pages make this one of my favourite poetry collection. Free copy provided from Netgalley in return for an honest review Publication date: I love poetry with a passion and really wanted to have a look through the words on the page. After I began reading this Free copy provided from Netgalley in return for an honest review Publication date: After I began reading this, I realised that R. Sin was a rather renowned poet, and I was excited to read this book and see why he was so popular.

I was definitely not let down by this. Sin has created a mass of poems that are nothing less than relatable. The way people treat us leaves marks and they leave scars, and we are left with trying to build ourselves back up. Everyone can relate to at least one poem in this.

Whiskey, Words, and a Shovel

We have such a strong and special connection, finding it written down in a poem like this absolutely startled me and made me feel alive. The pain in most of these poems is heartbreaking. As I read through this collection, my heart broke and broke, and I found it harder to keep the tears lodged in my throat. This collection has brought me to tears so often, I cannot believe it. Sin has created a world based on the real world, in just three hundred and thirty eight pages.

This poetry collection also has another major theme: Strong Women. I love this so much. Sin also slanders the men that hurt these women.

That never wanted the woman or her heart, just her body. I have found a strong part of myself I never knew existed. Throughout reading this entire book, I never wanted this to end. Eventually I sat down and read it page by page in one day and my breath was totally taken away from me. Sin has created a massive, wonderful poetry collection here, and I have utterly fallen in love with their writing. I am definitely going to be reading the rest of their collections if I can find them in my local library.

Sin should definitely be a celebrated poet and is a future classic in this world. I need more by this author immediately. Apr 04, Chris rated it really liked it Shelves: This volume is filled with hope, love, love lost, sex, compassion, chaos, and some real positive messages.

The passion that emanates from Sin is incredible, I found myself re-reading so many of these poems, and I always anticipated the following one. I enjoyed how personable they felt. Sin writes more positive in this collection, while the chaos is still there, and the hurt is still there, the beauty and positive messages really come through. Self-love especially, which I think is so important at a time like now. I highlighted so many lines as I read this the first time around, and even more after some extra glances.

Jan 11, Jennifer rated it liked it Shelves: Nov 08, Diana Iozzia Bookworm Banter rated it really liked it. Sin is an unorthodox poet with his lack of punctuation, capitalization, and the occasional intentional sentence fragment.

I enjoy Mr. The second half is more likeable to me. Many aspects of his poetry ring true in this book as well. Sin uses many different metaphors, similes, and great personification.

There are so many poems on how strong women are, how you should look for relationships that make you whole, how crappy some women are, how crappy men are.

Like I mentioned before, many of the poems in this book are angry and a little bitter. Still, I think I really enjoyed this book, because of all of the poems I did indeed like. There are quite a few, but here are the ones I suggest and like. I have bookmarked them, so enjoy! Oct 22, sonich rated it did not like it Shelves: Dec 13, Insanity. I'm beyond speechless. I will not spoil things for anyone, so I'll just post few of my favourite quotes: Mar 17, Cameron rated it really liked it Shelves: I can honestly say that these words are very important to hear.

No matter what gender you are you need to hear these words. How important self care is and how strong you are to leave a relationship that is hurting you. The first couple poems actually made me cry because it was exactly what I needed to hear that moment.

This poetry collection is important. Please read it and absorb these words. Dec 07, Emy added it Shelves: Apr 05, Laura Cely rated it it was amazing. H is able to put what we feel into words and i find that magical. Also, it made me feel like i had a friend that was there to give me advice. I don't know but i just loved it. Rated 5 out of 5 by Sara from Moving I have read a fair few poetry books over the past few months and I found that this was one of my favourites. The writing is simple, honest, easy to relate to and not whiny which is a problem I have with a lot of more contemporary poetry like this.

Overall, I would say this is a good place to start if you are looking to dip your toes in. Rated 1 out of 5 by bdonut from worst Bad marketing. Rated 5 out of 5 by tiffany from heart-wrenching The writing was achingly raw and brought me to tears.
