Sort order. Apr 17, Liz rated it it was amazing. She wrote each part as a "season" which I loved. I also loved the prayers and the places to write stuff. I could see someone using this as a devotional, even if it isn't actually a devo book. She also had bits called "beautiful certainty" which are like God's promises and whatnot. Love love love.
Mandy is the kind of writer who makes you feel like she's sitting across with you, encouraging you. Possibly with coffe 5, stars because this spoke to my spirit sooooo much! Possibly with coffee. Okay, definitely with coffee. Jan 28, Rachel Carpenter rated it it was amazing. Let me start this review by saying that this book came at exactly the time I needed it in my life, so it's score of 5 of 5 stars is no surprise.
Mandy the author is a single young woman who stepped out in faith to minister to other single ladies by sharing her life story with the world. In a beautifully compelling, tear-jerking way, she shares her heart on falling in love with Jesus.
Through short essays, we learn about the struggle of letting go of loves past and looking forward to loves future Let me start this review by saying that this book came at exactly the time I needed it in my life, so it's score of 5 of 5 stars is no surprise. Through short essays, we learn about the struggle of letting go of loves past and looking forward to loves future. Mandy shares her greatest heartbreak, a man who begged the question: Was I your option while you were my choice?
And this is where it struck a chord in my own story. You've all heard by now that I was in an on again, off again, untitled relationship that recently came to a final end after several years. I've been dealing with a lot of confusion over the entirety of that relationship: Was I really in love I was? Did he love me in his own way, I suppose he did? Why didn't he fight for me?
Was I right to give up I was, I firmly believe it? Why did I let myself become so attached to such heartache? As Mandy shared her story of healing, I found her words nourishing healing in my own heart and soul as well. The similarities in our struggles was almost scary at first, but as I let her speak to my heart, I felt the love of Jesus washing away every last ounce of hurt.
Just as her Mr. E came into her life to teach her total and consistent reliance on Christ, I believe the same of my own love story past. This book has left me breathless, sobbing, challenged, inspired and feeling courageous. Vulnerable is a good thing.
Heartbreak is a good thing. It all leads to total and consistent reliance on the Lord. And there is no one safer to rely on. I plan to hold onto my copy for many years to come and mark it up with thoughts over the many rereads that will surely take place, especially when undergoing the painful growth of breakups. I unabashedly campaigned on Facebook while reading and will do so here: If you are a single young woman or the parent of a single young woman, or even if you just know a single young woman, this book is key.
I'm serious. I plan to buy copies for several of my friends. As Augustus Waters once said, "It's a beautiful life I received a free copy of this book from BookLookBloggers in exchange for an honest review. I am so very glad I did. I can't wait to get my hands on Mandy's other books as I'm sure I'll eagerly devour them as well. Mar 15, Cheryl rated it it was amazing. Yet another great piece. Embrace the uncertain, you'll get by the certainty at the right time. I'm up for the beautiful summer night, cool breeze by the beach, looking up with the million of stars at night, bare feet walking on the sand and a great book in hand.
Walk alone if you had to, it's scary but He'll lead you. Jan 30, Kaitlyn Bouchillon rated it did not like it. I'd like to say first that I appreciate Mandy's willingness to write on what is a tender subject for many. She was quick to write and inform her reader of her weaknesses, always pointing to God as the source of strength. I didn't feel that the book flowed, though. It felt choppy, often telling part of a story and then putting a random chapter in between the ending of the story which would come in the next chapter.
The "chapters" were really only pages with a place to journal or a prayer at I'd like to say first that I appreciate Mandy's willingness to write on what is a tender subject for many. The "chapters" were really only pages with a place to journal or a prayer at the end, so I never felt like Mandy went far below the surface.
This isn't really a reflection on her writing, but a comment on the setup of the book and the frustrating moment of turning a page mid-story and discovering the story was over. Mandy even writes about the "5 guys most girls will fall for" and talks about how there is "the one" we should look for.
I personally disagree strongly with the idea of "the one" and was disappointed to find her saying there's only one guy out there for each of woman and we should "keep our eyes open and look for him. Again, this is not a critique on Mandy or her writing, but I believe it's largely due to the setup of the book. Feb 12, Becky rated it it was amazing.
I Will Survive! Are you single and unhappy?
Have you put your life on hold until you encounter "the one," and get married? Well, meet Mandy Hale, she has been where you are, and has the stories to prove it. Mandy is a very transparent author who writes about life as a single woman. She shares her dreams, hopes, dramas and disappointments.
She talks about the heartache of devoting years of her life to a man, whom she refers I Will Survive! She talks about the heartache of devoting years of her life to a man, whom she refers to as Mr. E, with whom she had an on-again-off-again relationship. In many ways it was more like a cat playing with a mouse. From the first page in this volume, you will feel like you have grabbed Mandy's hand, and become her friend and confidant.
This book is about finding herself, making new memories, taking a different direction in life, and being okay with that.
She is very open about her successes and failures. Included is her quest to get closer to God. When working towards that goal, she shares the story of the time she bought, and ate lunch with, The Lord of the Universe. Experience with her the joy she had in another instance when she bought a simple meal for a homeless man.
Her advice is to concentrate on listening, and building a relationship with, God. That will get you through all the times of your life--both the good and the bad. Doing that will give you your ultimate happiness. God will direct your path, whether that be to continue as a single person, or be in a relationship. Either way, you will have peace--that peace that Jesus promises His followers. These things have worked for Mandy, and they will work for you, too.
I liked this book, and think it will provide a lot of hope for those who are in despair about the state of their love life. This easy-to-read book offers things to think about, as well as, some prayer suggestions. Mandy has made a name for herself on social media with her many Twitter account followers, and her popular blog, The Single Woman, where she chronicles her life.
This 5-star book offers more in-depth information about her life, the state of her happiness, and how she got there. I recommend it to anyone who is dissatisfied with their life as a single person, and would like some uplifting advice. But the longer we wait, the larger we become, and the more joyful our expectancy. I wrote Beautiful Uncertainty in pieces, over the course of two years. Some if it while I was living it and some of it in hindsight. And the biggest lesson I learned from not just living the book but writing it is that waiting serves a purpose. It is holy. It is necessary. It is God-ordained. We can choose to LIVE while we wait. We can choose to wait in purpose.
All of this, as the scripture in Romans says, enlarges us. It increases our expectation. It expands our joy.
